Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures is the common name given to the sanitation procedures in food production plants which are required by the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) of the USDA and regulated by 9 CFR part 416 in conjunction with 21 CFR part 178.1010. It is considered one of the prerequisite programs of HACCP and part of GMP.
The FDA Food Safety Modernization Act, is considered the most sweeping reform of our food safety laws in more than 70 years. It aims to ensure the U.S. food supply is safe by shifting focus from responding to contamination, to preventing it. If you are not updated with these new regulations, your production facility could be operating outside the current legislation. This is ever-evolving as new laws are approved and enacted.
A Preventive Controls Qualified Individual “means a qualified individual who oversees or performs 1) preparation of the Food Safety Plan, 2) validation of the preventive controls, 3) records review, 4) reanalysis of the Food Safety Plan, and other activities as appropriate to the food. Getting your products certified can be a challenging endeavor. Each certification company has their own rules and regulations; some of which are driven by US legislation. Often times, filling out the application is only the first step. Then you need to ensure your packaging and ingredients and production process and warehouse storage all follow their guidelines. This almost always means updating or creating new processes and procedures; that then need to be trained on. Then they show up at your door wanting to audit your facility to ensure you are following their requirements, as well as, any governing regulations. Some even require ongoing reporting to maintain good standing which could lead to higher costs if not done correctly. Stop wasting time trying to figure all of this out and let us manage your certifications for you, so you can concentrate on growing your business.
